We love recruitment and enjoy the process of delivering successful results to our clients and candidates. For over 20 years, we’ve been placing the right candidates for the right jobs, but the 2020 pandemic has changed the recruitment process for everyone – job seekers and employers.
We wanted to share some of our recruitment experience and give some simple steps to help you improve your recruitment process.
Why? Because the covid pandemic has taught us that we are all ‘in it together’ and our community is valuable and important, together – we all grow!
A good recruitment process helps you attract and retain high-quality employees who match your company visions and missions. This means everyone is working in the same direction towards the same goals.
Compelling Brand / Reputation Management
Before starting the recruitment process, its good practice to create a compelling brand that would attract candidates – do you share your company culture on social media that potential candidates can preview? What makes your company unique and how would a potential employee benefit from working for your company.
Accurate Job Description
Sounds basic, right? But the more detail you can share in the job description, the more accurate your reach will be for suitable candidates. A precise description will create a barrier to unsuitable candidates and prevent the bombarding of unsuitable CV’s – setting clear boundaries, and clear expectations to both parties will save time for everyone. A good and accurate job description should convince suitable candidates to become employees.
Job Advertisement
We’ve never seen a talent pool as big as we have during this pandemic! Long gone are the days we can place a simple job advert online, and hope your ideal candidate will somehow stumble across your it and feel compelled to apply. Job adverts need to clear, concise and in the right place at the right time.
Your job advert is your first opportunity to make an excellent first impression. Think about the formatting. What does your candidate want to know? Have you got some great visuals you can use? Can you place the advert on your website? Consider writing search-friendly content to get found by those searching for your opportunity!
Reviewing CV, cover letters and applications.
With a record number of applications, you need a good process in place in order to find that golden nugget.
Scan the CV to get a feel for the first overall impression of the applicant. You’ll want to see at a glance that the applicant fulfils your key expectations. experience, and qualifications of the person who you would like to recruit. Look especially for a flawless presentation, correct spelling and grammar, and their attention to detail.
Screening Process / Remote Interview
This is an excellent opportunity to describe your company and provide more detail about the position you are recruiting for. It’s an opportunity to see if your shortlist of candidates meets the basic requirements for the role. And, if the job matches what the candidate is looking for. Both parties can access if interested in pursuing further.
Enjoy extending the job offer and recruiting.
When you find your ideal candidate – don’t wait! Give them a call and share with them why they are the right candidate for your company and your vision for them within that role and beyond. Explain the benefits they might receive like pensions plans, gym memberships, holiday etc – it helps to build interest and excitement. Let them know the details – salary, pay dates, start times, dress code. Give them an opportunity to ask any questions.
At this point the idea is to the create confidence and reassure them you’re the right company to join. Remember it’s a two-way street and job seekers can often have back up roles and you may not be their first choice. Now is your chance to change that.
