6 Top tips if you have unexpectedly found yourself job hunting.

The furlough scheme has protected millions of jobs during this pandemic, but now it’s coming to an end, will employers decide to take back their furloughed workers or make them redundant.

Companies don’t legally have to give furloughed workers notice to return to work. And some companies may only now be realising they cannot afford to keep their furloughed employees now.

Forecasters are expecting a slight rise in unemployment after the furlough ends. If you have found yourself approaching the 30th of September with no clear direction from your employer, you may find job hunting unexpectedly. Here are some great tips to help keep you motivated during your job hunting period:

Set small daily goals

By creating just small daily goals, you’ll reach 5pm and be able to tick off the tasks you have accomplished. Organising your things and space around you will help you focus on the next chapter of your life, and it will be time well spent.

Dedicate time to connect with friends

Now isn’t the time to isolate yourself. Make plans and maintain social connections. Scheduling in a coffee and catching up with your favourite people will give you something to look forward to each week.

Write a different CV and cover letter for each job application.

Wouldn’t it be great to blank out your CV to all the job vacancies listed online and await the response but there is nothing more off-putting to potential employers than reading a generic CV. But tailoring yourself to stand out from the crowd for every application is time-consuming and demoralising when you receive no response. This is when using a recruitment agency can save you time and make unique introductions for you.

Allow yourself to make mistakes.

Every day won’t be perfect, and things will steer you off track, and you’ll make mistakes along the way. But that’s ok, remember tomorrow is another day and jump straight back on track.

Be your own best friend and schedule self-care

Creating a routine when you’re unemployed can seem daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. Structure your days and include time for cooking healthy meals, going on walks, mediations, setting boundaries to say no so you can stay on track and focus on your goals.
